So as many of you know Microsoft had no new news about their next generation console often referred to as the Xbox Durango or Xbox 720. Well it turns out that new documents recently leaked online that provides us with way more information about the new system. In this day and age it seems that something new “leakes” every second day but what gives this a little more credibility is that Covington & Burling the law firm that represents Microsoft requested that Scribd remove the documents and they have done just that. Most sites have been forced to remove the documents but if you really want to see them they are still available on torrent sites.
So lets take a look at at the so called Microsoft’s Xbox Durango or Xbox 720. First thing that is interesting is that the system will come with a Kinect 2 that appears to be able to detect up to 4 people at the same time. I am not a huge Kinect fan and seeing that most of the games are garbage I am not really excited about this specific features but it does make sense as the kinect sold really well.
Xbox 720 release date
The next exiting news is that it provides a Xbox Durango / Xbox 720 Release date and price. The documents says that they are planning a 2013 holiday season launch and that a bundle that includes kinect 2 will cost about $300. So the next big question is just how powerful the Xbox 720 will be. The documents states that the Xbox 720 will be 6 to 8 times more powerful than the current Xbox 360. The new Xbox will use what is called the Yukon architecture that features six to eight 2Ghz ARM/x86 cores that has 2 additional ARM/x86 cores powering the OS and three PowerPC cores handling backward compatibility. It will also have 4 gigs of ram.
They are also planning for the Xbox 720 to have native 1080p 3D output and a Blu-ray player. They also want the Xbox Durango to have what they call “Multiple power states” Full Power, Media Playback, Idle, Streaming and Standby.
They talk about “Kinect Glasses” that seem to be AR glasses that will come with the console. This could be very interesting and something to really be excited about.
Another thing they seem to be going for is that the Xbox 720 should be the only box you need replacing Apple/Google TV. It can record TV in the background and show it on any device in your home. It seems that you can start and play your xbox 720 games on phones and PC’s. They also talk about what they recently at E3 called SmartGlass that basically will expand the xbox to your phone and PC.
But what to me is the most interesting thing is that they plan to have they own Cloud gaming System. They realize that the Xbox 720 will probably be the last hardware system they bring out and that they in the future will have to embrace cloud gaming. But not just gaming they want music, movies, games and tv to all be available on the cloud.
The document is very interesting but again we can never be 100% sure that this is real BUT fact that Microsoft moved very quickly to remove the document suggests that it might actually be real.
